You've spent a lot of money to incorporate beautiful Natural Stone into your living environment. Be sure to protect your investment with professional Cleaning and Sealing, to prevent staining and resist damage before it occurs.
Spills happen. All those 'watermarks', the things that you think you've wiped up but then they come back...all those marks that make your beautiful stone feel dirty when you know you've cleaned it . . . That, is Etching. No worries! I can totally fix that AND teach you how to remove minor etching from honed surfaces yourself.
What does Honed stone look like vs Polished stone? Well, here you go! You see light reflecting off the stone with a Polished surface. With a Honed surface, you see into the beauty of the stone itself, rather than the light bouncing off it. Polished or Honed is up to you. My job, is to give you all the information to make the best decision for you and your lifestyle.
You know that feeling when something heavy comes flying out of the cupboard, chinking a piece of Marble off your beautiful counter? I can fix that too!
I do seam repairs, fill cracks, fix chinks, rebuild corners that no longer exist and remove old unsightly fill, replacing it with appropriately matched epoxy. The Before and After will leave you smiling!
I firmly believe your Natural Stone should be beautiful, without ruling your life or your wallet. One of the first things I do when discussing your Stone Restoration needs, is help you reconcile your expectations vs your lifestyle. Then I teach you how to care for and maintain your Natural Stone, including when desired, how to remove minor etching from hand honed surfaces yourself.

Care and Maintenance of your Natural Stone
And Quartz
The first line of defense in keeping your Natural Stone and Quartz beautiful, is selecting and using the correct cleaners. The wrong cleaners, such as any cleaner that claims to be especially for stone, but ends in the words, ‘and shines’ or ‘and polishes’, leave a residue, which actually attracts dirt and causes stone to become unsightly over time. The right cleaners will help maintain your beautiful stone for many years to come.
First, let’s start with a Shopping List. These are all things that can be purchased at your local home improvement store, but I’m going to describe Home Depot so you have a point of reference.
Home Depot Shopping List
Two spray bottles
1 pack microfiber rags
1 Dawn Dish Liquid (NOT the Powerwash)
1 Quart Acetone
1 Box Razor Blades (100 count pack)

For Cleaning up Messes: Dawn
Use one of the spray bottles and add some Dawn to the bottle, then fill with water and mix it up. This is not rocket science, it’s dish soap :). So mix it in the ratio that feels good to you. To tidy up after cooking and meal prep, spray your Dawn solution and use a wet microfiber rag to clean and then rinse. That’s it! Dawn is safe for all of your stone and it is great at cutting through oil, grease and dirt, without leaving a residue. The microfiber rag is key here. I love my cotton rags as much as the next person, but it does not do what microfiber does on your stone.
**HELPFUL HINT: Use a Sharpie and write on the bottle, “Dawn/Stone/Messes” or whatever works for you so you know what it is and what it is used for.
For Everyday Cleaning: Crystal Clean
When you don’t have a mess to clean up, but just want to give your natural stone a tidy, use Stone Pro Crystal Clean.
With the other empty spray bottle, mix roughly 8oz of CC concentrate, then fill with water to the raised ridge around the neck of the bottle.
**HELPFUL HINT: Use a Sharpie and write, “Crystal Clean/Daily” or whatever works for you so you know what it is and what it is for.
HOW TO USE: Spray the Crystal Clean solution on your dry stone (or Quartz) and use a dry microfiber rag to wipe. If you see any streaks, spritz again and wipe. Streaks just mean you didn’t get it wiped up before it dried on the stone. Crystal Clean is a great daily cleaner, that you can use as often or as seldom as you like. It is perfectly safe and will not leave a residue causing build up.
For tougher spots on stone and soap residue on shower glass: Stone Scrub
Stone Pro Stone Scrub works great when you have a little something on your Quartz, is also safe on your natural stone and works great on shower glass! You do not dilute this product.
Shake the bottle.
Using a DRY microfiber rag, apply a nickel size dab of Stone Scrub to rag, apply that to stone and rub only in circular motion. Rinse well.
For Cleaning Mineral Deposits Around Plumbing Fixtures: Blades
Use a FRESH blade. Hold blade at a 45 degree angle, with sharp edge flat against the stone, and simply run the blade smoothly around the fixture, lifting the mineral deposit. Really, it is that simple. No scrubbing and no need for harsh chemicals. Blades are also perfect for lifting paint splatter and overspray off your Natural Stone and Quartz and they work great when you have something chunky stuck on after cooking, like egg. Just remember: Blade flat against the stone at 45 degree angle, swipe smoothly across. THEN THROW THAT BLADE AWAY. Sharp blades are your friend. Dull blades are not as they can scratch or cause other damage.
**Helpful hint: on the razor blades, I keep an old roll of painters tape next to my blades. After I use a blade ONE TIME, I wrap it in tape before throwing it away. This keeps anyone from cutting themselves when compacting trash and keeps the trash bag from getting slashed.
A Note on Acetone
Acetone is perfectly safe to use judiciously on your Natural Stone.
I use it all the time. It can be handy for removing paint splatter and other things like wood stain, varnish, etc. I also suggest it when people have a stain that Dawn does not remove.
**PLEASE NOTE: I DO NOT RECOMMEND USING ACETONE ON YOUR MANMADE QUARTZ. I can do it, but I know how to be careful with it. I do NOT recommend you use it on your Quartz.
****Please see below for a more detailed explanation of where to find the products listed above
Home Depot
Go to the Cleaning section, where you find mops and industrial size stuff:
-2 empty spray bottles
(get the ones with orange handles; cost half as much and last twice as long)
-1 bag of microfiber rags:
White ones if they have them, if not then get the pack that has grey and a yellow/orange color. Pull all the grey rags to use in the house and all the bright colored to use for workshop messing, grilling, etc. This reduces the opportunity for bright dye transfer on your natural stone. Wash these in hot water, never any fabric softener.
-Dawn Dishwashing Liquid
(not the Powerwash stuff, just Dawn liquid)
Go to the Paint section
-Acetone
(no, not mineral spirits, paint thinner, or denatured alcohol and NOT nail polish remover )
-1 box of razor blades
(comes in pack of 100)
**Helpful hint: on the razor blades, I keep an old roll of painters tape next to my blades. After I use a blade ONE TIME, I wrap it in tape before throwing it away. This keeps anyone from cutting themselves when compacting trash and keeps the trash bag from getting slashed.
